Board of Directors Meeting,
Sunday, April 25, 2004

In attendance: Mary Losee, Pat Rowan, Bruce Schomberg,
Lori Benson, Gary Flury, Archie Heffernan, Jason Foster, Greg Rorris, Docker
Hartfield, Paul Kemp, Jeannie Neal, Lisa Ellis, Peggy Speer, Betty Kooy
Bruce Schomburg presented recommendations from the meet
committee in detail. The assembled group voted to accept, deny or adjust the
items in order to present them to the House in May.
- The first amended recommendation: All bid meets on the
MWS schedule, except league meets and dual meets, will be sanctioned as Gold
or Silver meets or a combination of both, with Gold and Silver events being
scored separately. Gold meets will be BB+. Silver meets will be sub B
Recommended for approval at House.
- Accepted without amendments. Midwestern will
sanction a Division II and Division I Championship for Short Course and Long
Course seasons.
Recommended for approval at House.
- Defeated: The Midwestern Championship Meets to be set
up as Division I (BB+) and Division II (sub BB).
Recommended for defeat at House.
Time standards for Championships will remain an average of the 36th place
in the MW database for the previous 6 years.
- Accepted with amendments by Gary Flury. Division II
Championship Meet to be divided into 2 regions and all Midwestern teams will
be assigned to a regional meet. Division II meets will be set up and
sanctioned by MWS and be put up out for bids by host teams. Division II
Championships will be prelims/finals with the same age groups as at Division I
Championships. Awards will be the same for both Division II meets. Both
Division II meets will mirror events and format of Division I
Championships.

- Defeated: The Division I Championship Meet to include
only the following age groups: 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-14, 15&Over.
Recommended for defeat at House.
- Defeated: The Midwestern Championship Meet will be in
an 8 lane pool.
Recommended for defeat at House.
- Accepted with amendments: All Midwestern Championship
meets will be scored 12 places. Finals will include a bonus heat for 15&Over
age
group.
Recommended for approval at House.
- Accepted with amendments: The Midwestern Championship
Meets will include all the 11-12 events recognized by USA Swimming, but will
be swum timed finals. (ex. 200 Fly, Back, Breast, 1000 & 1650 Free and 400
IM) These events can be timed finals in the am session.
Recommended for
approval at House.
- Accepted: 8&Under and 9-10 age groups will move to
midday session for the winter championship. These age groups will swim time
finals.
Recommended for
approval at House.
- Tabled: Do 11-12s swim midday time finals, or
prelims/finals.
- Defeated: the Midwestern Division 1 and II Championship
Meets to have at least one championship heat of finals for all events except
the 1000 & 1650 Free, 11-12 200 Fly, Back, Breast, 400 IM and relays.
Recommended for
defeat at House.
- Accepted with amendments: Each Midwestern team is to
be allowed to enter and score only one (1) relay per age group in the
Midwestern Championship Meets and Senior relays will be designated 11&Over.
Recommended
for approval at House.
- Accepted: The fastest heat of relays swim in the finals
session of a Championship Meet.
Recommended for approval at House.
- Accepted: Award stand presentations for both Division I
& II Championships.
Recommended for
approval at House.
- Tabled pending an athlete survey: Division I
Championship awards to include meet mementos to all participants and medals to
the top 6 swimmers in each event. (High point awards?)
- Accepted: MWS Meet schedule to be posted at least 6
months in advance of season.
Recommended for approval at House.
- Defeated: Six events maximum for all ages at
Championship Meets plus relays. Limit of 3 events per day.
Recommended for defeat at House.
