Ted Smits and Steve Marchitelli will be attending
the USA clinic in Colorado Springs over the Memorial Day weekend. They will
submit written reports to me upon their return. They are driving out together
which should save the LSC on travel expenses.
There is a clinic in Broken Bow on May 15 S&T 2:00, Starter 5:00
There will be a clinic for summer league officials May 21 at Field Club at
10:00am.
There will be a clinic in Omaha later this month time and location to be
announced.
Paul could use some recommendations for officials for the Maxwell award.
(Bi-monthly)
Paul would like to see a non-athlete transfer form for Officials created.
All registered officials should have started receiving an email copy of “On the
Same Page” a newsletter sent out by the USA Officials Committee.
The on line officials test is now going to be an in hose item for USA Swimming
rather than being part if the ACSA site. It is targeted to go on line on May
15th and is supposed to be much more user friendly.
Short Course D I meet recommendations:
Timers names required in advance
Starting system speakers placed on lane six side.
Place judges used for all of the meet, a must on 25’s.
Assign a finalist check in coordinator w/headset.
Minimum of 4 safety marshals per session.
Set up and tear down committee.
If LSC run
-Check list of duties for each team.
-List of supplies provided by whom.
-List of requirements for UNO staff
Lisa Ellis reported that Westside High School has been reserved for October 28-30 for the Swimposium. Rent will be around $1000 for the 2 lecture halls, cafeteria and pool areas. Custodial fees will be $21 per hour, per custodian. The number of custodians will be determined by the number of participants. We will plan to have an awards banquet catered on Saturday evening, on sight. Lisa has contacted Milt Nelms about coming to do the coaches’ portion of the clinic. Lisa and Sara Juster have started contacting companies to donate door prizes and goody bag items. We will be asking NSAA to spread the word to high school coaches to increase our participation. Moved, seconded and PASSED to pursue the contracts and start the publication of the event.

Mike Jacobsen reported that we have $57,000 in checking, $2,300 in Petty cash, $15,000 in savings and $26,000 invested in 3 different areas. He pointed out that over ˝ of the assests of MWS are in non-interest bearing accounts. Mike moved that we liquidate most of these balances and put chunks of money into short term CDs or money market accounts. Seconded and PASSED unanimously. Mike and Mary Kocsis are directed to shop for the best deals, and make the decisions together. He stated that a laddered CD program with the longest maturation time being 1 year might be a way to go, with a CD maturing every quarter. Then the BOD can decide to reinvest each quarter.
Technical Chair report was read by Mary Losee. Bruce reported that conversation on the deck at Division 2 Championships was positive and recommends that it should remain a prelim-final meet for the 2005-2006 Short Course Season.
Bruce reported that Division 1 also went well. He
proposes the following changes:
1. All relays entered must have an entry time for seeding.
2. Change the 11 & Over age group for relays to 15 & Over
3. Eliminate the bonus heat from the 15 & Over.
Bruce also recommends that the D2 meet be held at 2 sites again,
but on the weekend immediately following the NE state high school meet. He
further recommends that the D1 meet be the following weekend.
Brian Jensen and Pat Rowan made a motion that the meet schedule, types of meets and recommendations for championship meet format will be the sole power of the Pre-Sanction Committee. Recommendations for change must be submitted to the Senior AND Age Group Chairs for consideration. This was seconded and PASSED.
Jack Jackson reported on the progress of the Omaha Sports Committee getting the Olympic Trials to Omaha in 2008. He indicated that USA Swimming is pleased with Omaha and the number of people who have already volunteer to help. He believes the only stumbling block at this point is airlines and if they are willing to up the number of flights into Omaha for the duration of the trials.
